Here you will find access to the original progressive-rock instrumental works of recording artist Keith Petty available either for download (in convenient MP3 format) or on compact disc (be advised a high speed internet connection is recommended for optimal performance). This project represents the summation of almost eight years of painstaking track selection from both a creative as well as an intellectual perspective. Several of the cuts began their conceptual life packaged as part of a five song demo project which was submitted to, and well received by, major label A&R execs, producers, publishers, etc. However, by this time (circa 1998), the record industry had completed its metamorphosis of mediocrity and with the advent and eventual adoption of the “entertainer first, musician second ideology” the writings were on the wall (a trend which continues unabated even today). Given these circumstances it is really not surprising most A&R executives perceived this material too cerebral ultimately resulting in the project being killed.
The master tapes were shelved for posterity’s sake and there they remained for the next four years. Fast forward to calendar year 2002 and a very different story begins to unfold. Rapid advances in technology illuminated the need to reexamine the original compositions. After a protracted period of evaluation, a deliberate decision was made to resume the project with or without the blessings of the powers that be. However, as opposed to simply tweaking the originals, all preexisting tracks would be rescored and rerecorded from scratch utilizing an arsenal of all new, all digital gear coupled with an iron-clad emphasis on arrangement format. The goal was to score/produce contemporary progressive rock instrumental music unsurpassed in terms of quality, content, and execution. It should be noted that while access to great gear certainly helped, the lion’s share of this project was and will continue to be principally focused on songwriting.
